Sophia Mbakwe is a leading expert on sustainable community development, having worked as Head government and Publics Affairs for Statoil Nigeria Limited for 17 years; a lawyer by profession, Sophia headed the Human Resources, Commercial/Legal and Community relations departments at different times during her engagement at Statoil. She was head of Corporate Social responsibility, when Statoil received Two International prestigious award on the best company for sustainable development in Africa.
Sophia is an engaging speaker who has given several key note addresses at international oil conferences in Nigeria, Ghana, London and Norway on the Norwegian model on local content, Sustainable development. An avid reader, Sophia is on the management board of the Sickle cell cohort research foundation and is a member of the The Communication on Progress, which is a key instrument of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) local network group . She is also a leader of the Bible Coffee Club of the Women for change at This Present House, Lagos Nigeria.
Sophia is the founder of several companies including Green Butterfly an Interior design company and Planting Streets an oil and gas consultancy firm.
Sophia also loves travelling and Gardening. She is married and blessed with four children.
